INCLUSION AND SEND AT KINGSTON

Inclusion Vision Statement

At ROBUS, we believe that inclusion is the foundation of a thriving learning community. Our vision is to create an environment where every learner - regardless of their background, ability, identity or personal circumstance - feels welcomed, valued and empowered to achieve their full potential.

We are committed to:

  • Equity in Opportunity – Ensuring that all pupils and staff have fair access to learning, development and success.
  • Respect and Belonging – Cultivating a culture where differences are celebrated and everyone feels safe, respected and included.
  • Removing or Reducing Barriers – Actively identifying and dismantling obstacles to participation and achievement, especially for those who may face disadvantage or
  • Empowered Voices – Listening to and amplifying the voices of our pupils, families and staff from all walks of life.
  • Continual Growth – Embedding inclusive practices in all aspects of school life, from curriculum design to recruitment and committing to ongoing reflection and improvement.

Our Trust stands united in the belief that inclusion is not a one-time goal but a continuous journey - a journey we undertake with integrity, compassion and ambition.

 Implementation

At ROBUS, inclusion is at the heart of our practice. We are committed to ensuring that every child - regardless of need, background or starting point - receives high‑quality teaching and the right support to thrive. Our approach is rooted in evidence‑based research, including the Ordinarily Available Provision framework, the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) guidance, and the Five‑a‑Day Principles for inclusive classroom practice. These trusted resources inform how we design, deliver and evaluate provision across all our schools.

The ROBUS Inclusion Toolkit

To support this vision, we have developed the ROBUS Inclusion Toolkit - a practical, Trust‑wide resource designed to empower teachers in the early identification of needs and the implementation of effective support. The toolkit provides staff with a comprehensive collection of strategies and guidance to ensure that every child receives the support they need in a timely, well‑structured and consistent way.

Every teacher is a teacher of SEND and effective inclusion begins with excellent classroom practice. The Inclusion Toolkit helps staff to:

  • Identify and respond to a wide range of SEND needs within the classroom
  • Implement evidence‑based adaptations, adjustments and interventions that promote engagement, progress and independence
  • Build a positive, nurturing and supportive learning environment for all pupils
  • Work collaboratively with SENDCOs, teaching assistants and specialist professionals

A Graduated Response

The toolkit is organised using a graduated response model to align with the Trust’s SEND policies and the statutory assess, plan, do, review cycle:

  • Universal Provision: High-quality teaching strategies, scaffolding, adaptations and routines used consistently for all learners in the mainstream classroom.
  • Targeted Support: Additional, time‑limited interventions for pupils who require further support beyond universal provision.
  • Specialist Support: Personalised planning and guidance for pupils with more complex needs, including work with external professionals.

This structure ensures that staff can quickly identify the appropriate level of support, confidently follow Trust processes and meet statutory requirements with clarity and consistency.

Supporting Families

We understand that navigating SEND processes can feel overwhelming for families. To support this, we have created:

  • A Parent Flowchart: A clear, accessible visual guide showing the different levels of support available and what they can expect at each stage.
  • SEND Information Report: A user‑friendly document explaining how ROBUS supports pupils with SEND, our approach to identification and intervention and how we work with families and external agencies.

We actively encourage families to talk to us at any time if they have concerns. Partnership with parents and carers is central to our inclusive ethos, and we work together to secure the very best outcomes for every child.

Assessment Across the Trust

ROBUS has established a clear and consistent approach to assessing pupils with SEND across all schools in the Trust. Our assessment methods ensure that:

  • Every child’s progress is understood individually
  • Teachers feel confident and equipped to make accurate assessments
  • Interventions and support are well‑targeted and impactful

This consistency enables us to monitor progress effectively, celebrate success and ensure that all children receive the tailored, responsive support they deserve.

Impact

With these robust processes, structures and evidence‑based approaches in place, ROBUS ensures that every child receives high‑quality teaching and meaningful provision tailored to their individual needs. Our commitment to inclusion means that all pupils - regardless of ability, background or starting point - are given the opportunity to thrive, succeed and feel a strong sense of belonging within our schools.

Through the consistent use of the Inclusion Toolkit, a graduated response model and a Trust‑wide approach to assessment, our staff are confident, skilled and empowered to identify needs early and implement strategies that make a significant difference to children’s learning, wellbeing and independence.

Because support is carefully embedded within everyday classroom practice, pupils with additional needs are not singled out or easily identifiable. Instead, they learn alongside their peers through adaptive teaching, purposeful scaffolding and thoughtful, personalised approaches. This creates an environment where every child feels valued and understood and where barriers to learning are reduced or removed entirely.

As a result:

  • All children experience an inclusive, accessible and supportive education that meets them where they are.
  • Pupil outcomes improve, with learners making strong progress academically, socially and emotionally.
  • Children with SEND flourish, benefiting from well‑planned adaptations and expert guidance from highly skilled staff.
  • Families feel supported and reassured, knowing that their child is understood, nurtured and celebrated.
  • Schools across ROBUS maintain a culture of inclusion, where diversity is recognised as a strength and where every child can reach their full potential.

Our inclusive approach ensures that every learner is given the opportunity to succeed and that every school within the Trust is a place where all children can grow, achieve and truly belong.
